Like many native New Yorkers, there are still many historical & cultural sites that I’ve not yet visited. My New Year’s Resolutions always include the promise to play tourist in my own city…..

The Schomburg Center’s been on my list… & now many of its treasures can be accessed virtually….

Start by exploring Schomburg’s Digital Projects, which has extensive digital materials on topics from Black New Yorkers to Malcolm X.

And you can also access and research the library’s over 300,000 photographs and prints .

Virtually visit past exhibitions that you may have missed including Traveling While Black, Showing Out: Fashion in Harlem, and Georgia on My Mind: Black Politicians in Congress .

But the Schomburg is open ! Make this the year you take the A-Train to Harlem and visit the historic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Great starting point for learning more about African American history . Available as an eBook at NYLI…… Consider a free trial today.
