Thanksgiving, that all American Holiday, is here once again. here at NYLI we’d like to give a big THANK YOU to all our members! Interesting questions asked & answered, print and eBooks borrowed, Records & Briefs scrutinized, informative webinars — you’ve participated in our research lives, helped us grow and learn, and collaborated with us…

And what would my Thanksgiving Day blog be without a look at some of our holiday traditions and NYLI resources….

And while our first President issued a Thanksgiving proclamation, it was during the Civil War that the holiday began its development as a national holiday….

At the urging of author Sarah J. Hale, President Lincoln issues a proclamation giving thanks during a “civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity”..

Thanksgiving has also become the kick-off for the holiday shopping season, with the the next day being termed “Black Friday”, as retailers hope sales in late November and December will put their books in the black (profitable) rather than red (loss) side of the ledger…

But giving back remains a big part of the season, and opportunities abound for small and large acts of philanthropy. And, yes, Nonprofits need legal representation. Don’t worry, NYLI has you covered with….
