American Journalism Review recently reportedthat increasingly news sources are using Tumblr to engage with readers. In particular, the news outlets use Tumblr to reach younger audiences. The article highlights the Washington Post’s use of the site. While the Washington post has had a Tumblr since 2011, it really did not start using it until February of last year. The site allows greater depth of coverage than Twitter with its character limits, and allows for both serious stories as well as a touch of humor. Other news outlets that have achieved success in reaching readers with Tumblr include NPR, BBC, and Newsweek.
