DESCRIPTION:NYLI’s Director of Innovation & Engagement\, Ellyssa Valenti Kroski will be presenting the following webinar for Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC) with special guest NYLI’s Executive Director Lucy Curci-Gonzalez: \nLearn about the process of legal research in this beginner webinar on law librarianship. This informative session will discuss where to find the law including primary sources such as constitutions\, statutes\, court opinions and case law\, regulations\, and administrative decisions as well as important secondary and scholarly sources which may be cited as persuasive authority such as treatises\, law reviews\, specialized periodicals\, annotations\, and restatements\, as well as legal encyclopedias. Carbone\, Esq. counsels individuals and small businesses on a variety of\nlegal issues.\nJean Davis\, Esq. is an Associate Librarian for International Law at Brooklyn Law\nSchool with multiple years of experience in legal research and teaching.\n\nIn just two months\, the Trump administration has dramatically reshaped U.S. immigration policy – issuing a wave of executive orders\, ramping up enforcement\, and signaling a more restrictive approach to legal immigration. This session will provide an analysis of key immigration agencies – DHS\, USCIS\, EOIR\, ICE\, and CBP – and the policy shifts impacting their operations. We’ll examine the current executive orders\, recent legislation (i.e.\, Laken Riley Act)\, federal agency firings\, and the expansion of ICE raids. Attendees will also gain insight into upcoming enforcement priorities\, new registration requirements for undocumented immigrants\, and the implications of Congress’ proposed $350 billion mass deportation budget.
