Taylor and Francis recently published a white paper on the use of social media by libraries entitled “Use of Social Media and the Library: Current Practices and Future Opportunities.” The study focused on the United Kingdom, United States, and India. The study found that more than 70% of libraries are using social media tools and most of those have used it for three years or more. Facebook and Twitter are the most popular channels, but other tools are being used and are gaining ground. The study concludes that social media is and will be an important tool for libraries to reach their patrons. The group is planning to launch a social media site for libraries later this year.
