As the oldest circulating law library in New York City, the New York Law Institute (NYLI) has an impressive collection of current, unique, historical and hard-to-find materials. Membership provides access to significant print resources enhanced by remote access to an array of online databases.

A very professional and dedicated team provides reference assistance and research services. Benefits of becoming a NYLI member:

  • Personal Research Assistance  - NYLI research experts are available to members during library hours and handle information requests from quick fact checking and research guidance to in-depth researches. You can reach our professional librarians by phone, email, live chat during hours of operation or in person.
  • Member Online Services - NYLI members can access a wide variety of legal and business databases directly from their desktops at no additional cost. Also, you can access your online accounts to renew books loans, consult transactions history, create unique lists, save searches and fill out request.
  • Unique Print Collection -  Give you access to our unique print collection. Materials circulate for 7 business-days with options to renew by e-mail, phone, or online for two additional 7-day periods 
  • One Card Convenience - The NYLI patron card allows members admittance to the library, borrowing privileges and remote access to Member Online Services.
  • Rapid service  - Most of our document delivery requests are filled within an hour with documents delivered by email or messenger service.
  • Federal Depository Library - NYLI has been a federal depository since 1909 and its collection has retained materials from that time through the present. Our collection contains the basic core collection of the FDLP, but also it contains items like the Warren Commission reports on the Kennedy assassination, the 1999 Report on Mass Tort Litigation and the SEC report on Investment trusts and Investment Companies from 1938.
  • Training - NYLI provides Webinars on online databases on a regular basis. You can also request personalized training session for you and your team on legal research or online databases. Our research experts will adapt the training based on your needs and audience.
  • Firm Support Staff Accessibility -  Paralegals and clerks are permitted to use the services at no additional charge
